Agriculture Secretary Russell
Redding visited Howard Elementary School in Centre County to celebrate
Ag Literacy Week. There, he encouraged students to think about where
their food comes from and to explore careers in agriculture as he read
Katie Olthoff's "My Family's Soybean Farm" and "Phyllis Root's Anywhere
Farm" to kindergarten, first- and second-grade students.

Secretary Redding attended a conference, hosted by WeConservePA, highlighting the importance of continued investment for programs developed under the PA Farm Bill.

a visit to Bald Eagle Area Middle-High School, Secretary Redding saw
firsthand how the PA Farm Bill Ag & Youth grant is working to assist
students.
He participated in a class where
they were harvesting lettuce and he also learned about their plans to
grow strawberries at the elementary school with a Farm to School grant.

teachers and others for the Pennsylvania FFA State Legislative
Leadership Conference and Breakfast.

| Gov. Wolf Announces $2.8 Million Investment in Feeding the Next Generation of Farm Prosperity
Governor Tom Wolf announced awards
of more than $2.8 million in tax-exempt, low-interest financing for
five Lancaster and Chester County farms through the Next Generation
Farmer Loan Program. The program gives beginning farmers access to
affordable capital to purchase farmland or agricultural equipment,
lowering interest rates and boosting farm profits through a unique
state-federal-private industry partnership.

Announces Plans for $250 Million Investment to Support Innovative
American-made Fertilizer to give US Farmers more choices in the
Marketplace
The U.S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA) is announcing it will support additional fertilizer production
for American farmers to address rising costs, including the impact of
Putin’s price hike on farmers, and spur competition. USDA will make
available $250 million through a new grant program this summer to
support independent, innovative and sustainable American fertilizer
production to supply American farmers. Additionally, to address growing
competition concerns in the agricultural supply chain, USDA will launch a
public inquiry seeking information regarding seeds and agricultural
inputs, fertilizer, and retail markets.

Opening of Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program (VMLRP) Fiscal Year 2022 Application Cycle & Informational Webinars
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program (VMLRP)
announces the opening of the fiscal year (FY) 2022 application cycle.
NIFA anticipates that approximately $7.6 million in funding will be
available in FY2022 to help eligible veterinarians offset a significant
portion of debt incurred in pursuit of their veterinary medical degrees
in return for their service in certain high-priority veterinary shortage
situations. The VMLRP will pay up to $25,000 each year towards
qualified educational loans of eligible veterinarians who agree to serve
in a NIFA-designated veterinarian shortage situation for a period of
three years.
Deadline: VMLRP applications are due Friday, April 15, 2022 at 5 PM EST.

Dairy Packaging Innovation Grant
The Northeast Dairy Business
Innovation Center (NE-DBIC) announced the availability of funds through
the Dairy Packaging Innovation Grant program, which will provide grants
to projects that decrease environmental impacts of dairy product and
supply chain packaging and increase marketability of dairy products.
Grant funds are available to projects along the spectrum of research,
development, and implementation and for projects at a variety of scales.
Projects will be collaborative and include an educational or
information sharing component.
