Governor Tom Wolf called on
congressional leaders to extend the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s
(USDA) waiver authority for child nutrition programs through the 2022-23
school year in the 2022 Omnibus Bill. As supply chain and workforce
issues persist, the waiver authority will ensure adequate funding and
flexibility to purchase and transport a variety of foods for school
meals.

USDA Announces $35 Million Funding Opportunity to Support Underserved and Veteran Farmers and Ranchers
The U.S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA) announced approximately $35 million in available funding to
community-based and nonprofit organizations, institutions of higher
education, and tribal entities that help historically underserved and
veteran farmers and ranchers own and operate successful farms.

Dairy Packaging Innovation Grant
The Northeast Dairy Business
Innovation Center (NE-DBIC) announced the availability of funds through
the Dairy Packaging Innovation Grant program, which will provide grants
to projects that decrease environmental impacts of dairy product and
supply chain packaging and increase marketability of dairy products.
Grant funds are available to projects along the spectrum of research,
development, and implementation and for projects at a variety of scales.
Projects will be collaborative and include an educational or
information sharing component.
Pre-Application Deadline: March 17, 2022 at 2:00 PM ET
Full Application Deadline: June 3, 2022 at 2:00 PM ET

| Dairy Excellence Grants Available
Are you looking to make an improvement
to boost efficiency on your dairy operation? Whether you want to
install a fan or sprinkler system in your freestall barn, upgrade your
feed mixer in your feeding system, or replace your milker units with a
more efficient system, consider applying for a Dairy Excellence
Grant. The Center leverages funds provided through the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania to provide Dairy Excellence Grants to support improvement
projects on the farm. If you are approved for the grant, you will
receive a 50 percent match, up to a maximum matching level of $5,000.
Deadline: The application period will close on March 31, 2022.

USDA Announced Additional Funding Through the Local Agriculture Market Program
USDA announced supplemental American
Rescue Plan Act funding for the Local Agriculture Market Program. The
supplemental American Rescue Plan funding is divided into $65 million
for fiscal years 2022 and 2023 each.
Deadline: Applications must be submitted electronically by May 16, 2022.
